lCLASSMATE POST #1

1. What recruitment strategies should the task force consider?
There are numerous things the task force can do to recruit new employees. One way is to post job openings on multiple career websites. They can also put up flyers in colleges and universities for the students about to graduate. Another way to recruit is creating a relationship with a college or university. With that relationship, students can come to BCC and follow a nurse for a few weeks. Word of mouth with a relationship like this can be beneficial for recruitment.
2. How should BCC strategize to avoid staffing shortages in the future?
One way BBC can avoid staffing shortages is to hire per diem employees. These employees will pick up shifts that are not taken by full time and part time employees. This way pressure is not put on the full time and part time employees to over work themselves.

CLASSMATE POST #2

The BCC seems to be having issues with filling positions as well as retention of current employees. The HR department seems to be overwhelmed with the task of hiring 16 employees. They’re currently utilize their own website, employee referrals, and job fairs. With the volume of employees they want to hire, this holistic approach isn’t going to work.

With admitting patients being their source of income, the BCC needs to invest in a 3rd party hiring service. This will allow the current staff to focus on patients, while the staffing company does what they do best. Staffing companies are able to tap into their huge network of potential employees, and get people hired quickly.

BCC needs to revamp their training and development process. This will improve employee retention rate by creating more competent people, and make them feel wanted within their organization. The BCC should also look at improving technology. This will help streamline processes making the hospital more efficient. This will assist in relieving some of the burden if they find themselves in an employee shortage again.

HI135: Legal Aspects of Health Information

CLASSMATE POST #3

Privacy and security for patient health data is the utmost priority for patients, healthcare professionals, and the government. Federal laws require the main individuals and establishments that take care of health data to have policies and security precautions in place to guard the health data. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules are the key Federal laws that guard health data. The Privacy rule sets limits on how the health data can be used and shared. The Security Rule sets how the health data must be securely kept with technical, physical, and administrative precautions. (HealthIT.gov, December 2018)

HIPPA shaped a standard of privacy protection. It preempts other privacy laws that aren’t as protective. Under this legal outline, healthcare professionals and others must follow other related state and federal laws that require procuring the patients consent before giving out any of their health data. (HealthIT.gov, September 2018)

CLASSMATE POST #4

HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, was created to provide privacy, security, and breach rules that are federal laws that protects patient’s health information (HealthIT, 2018). This gives patients the rights to determine who, what, and when what information can be given or shared. This is when patients are given the options when completing paperwork for office visits, surgeries, etc, such as medical release forms that are given to the patients where they can list who their information can and cannot be released to. This also gives the patient what information may be released. Patients may be under the care of several providers for different health reasons, so being able to share this information between providers securely is a main goal. With the creation of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR), facilities and providers are able to send information securely between each other without concerns of this not being secure. Being able to send with the click of a mouse gives providers more quality time to spend with each patient.

Healthcare professionals are held at higher standards to keep patient information private. This information should be protected by locking computer screens when leaving the area, locking information in filing cabinets, keeping information out of view of others, always using fax cover sheets with disclaimers.
