I don’t know how to handle this English question and need guidance.
Choose what you consider to be the MOST important event of the year you have. Research that event using at least five sources. The Internet can be one of the sources, but you should also consult journals, newspapers, magazines, almanacs, and other sources which are readily available in our library.
Write a two-paragraph paper in which you focus on this event. Show in your discussion why it is considered to be an extremely important event for your year. This event can be a world-wide event, not just one which took place in the United States, even though it can also be one which did impact our country. Be sure you properly document all information from sources. (You will find that the information you present will be heavily footnoted, since you are learning about the details of this event for several sources.)
Here is a suggested outline for this paper.

- General statement about events that happened in your year
- Specific statement about the important event in the year you have: On January 8, 1790, President George Washington gave the first “State of the Union” address in New York City. This yearly address by the president has continued throughout the years and is anticipated each year.
- Thesis Statement: President Washington focused on ways to preserve peace, naturalization rules, the advancement of the education, and the economy of the country.
- Development paragraph #1
- Topic sentence concerning the event: The President stated that the country should “be prepared for war [which] is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.”
- Supporting discussion
- Transitional statement leading to next topic.
- Developmental paragraph #2
- Topic sentence: President Washington emphasized that with the influx of foreigners that “Various considerations also render it expedient, that the terms on which foreigners may be admitted to the rights of Citizens, should be speedily ascertained by a uniform rule of naturalization,” which would later become The Naturalization Acts of 1790 and 1795.
