TRAVIL PROJECT

FOLLOW IT CAREFULLY

TRAVEL PROJECT>>> YOUR DESTANATION GONNA BE  >>>>  BRAZIL

Purpose: To acquaint you with pragmatic and creative aspects of world travel.

Project: Plan a hypothetical 10-14 day trip to a specific travel with below guidelines.

Requirements: 1000 word (4 pages double spaced) term paper submitted by the due date. Alternatively, you can submit a PowerPoint presentation with 10 – 20 slides that includes your text material in the “notes” section of the slides, which must comply with the word count minimum.

Getting Started: Submit Topic of interest by Friday, April 7th(5 points). I recommend you choose a country based on your ethnic background, family history, or personal acquaintances (e.g., friend from another country). If you have a locale that is of personal interest, the project will be of more practical use to you in the future. Once, I,

Content: Each project should include the following:

Brief Orientation: A basic background of the country, its history and interesting features. Give some sense of the climate where/when you will be traveling (so you know what clothes to pack!), but don’t turn the project into a “country” report. Emphasize the trip. Include a map that shows the trip itinerary. (10 points)

Activities: A day-by-day itinerary of your trip (10-14+ days). “Package Deals”are NOT acceptable unless they are out of the ordinary trips. For example, a package trip down the Amazon River would be acceptable as this is the only way you can get there; an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica is unacceptable. Just visiting “beach and bars” does not make for a unique travel experience. Please include photos of your intended activities. (10 points)

Travel: Include information about transportation cost and means (taxi, train, camel, etc.), estimated time of travel, lodging, visas, currency, exchange rate, any non-standard immunizations, etc. Make this PRACTICAL information. Do NOT fly first-class or stay at expensive 5-star hotels; most people cannot afford such luxuries. Spend time looking for a “good deal” and you will be surprised at how inexpensive world travel can be. Costs of activities within the country should be included as well. (10 points)

Cultural Customs: Greetings (e.g., hello, thank you, etc.), gestures, dress, taboos, social etiquette, food, etc. These are important for getting around, interacting, “fitting in,” and avoiding social faux pas that may offend locals or potentially land you in jail. (10 points)

How do you feel about sharing yourself honestly and vulnerably with others? What prevents you from being fully authentic?  How do you feel when you are present with another person’s vulnerability?

How do you feel about sharing yourself honestly and vulnerably with others? What prevents you from being fully authentic?

How do you feel when you are present with another person’s vulnerability?

What do you see as the advantages or disadvantages of listening to someone’s needs as opposed to listening to what they are thinking?

Listen for how people verbally respond to the discomfort of others—what “non-empathic” responses are you hearing and how does it affect the quality of communication (i.e., advice giving, educating, telling their own story, interrogating, minimizing)?

Regression Analysis Assignment

Regression Analysis Assignment

Data

The multiple regression assignment has the following requirements in terms of data:

  • There should be at least 30 observations in your data set.
  • The data can be either cross-section or time series.
  • There must be some logical reason for the number of observations that you choose, i.e., do not stop at 30 observations for no reason:

Ex. – If you are using data for states, use all 50 states in the United States.

Ex. – If you are using data for the developing countries of Asia, you should use data for all 41 countries who are members of the Asian Development Bank.

Ex. – If you are using quarterly data, you should use data for eight years (32 quarters).

Ex. – If you are using monthly data, you should use data for three years (36 months).

– However, it is appropriate to start at the beginning of a year and end with the most recent data:

Ex. – 2008 Q1 to 2016 Q3 = 35 quarters

  • The minimum number of independent variables in your model is three.
  • At least one of the independent variables must be a dummy variable.
  • No more than half of the independent variables can be dummy variables.

 .

Analysis

Use your data and a spreadsheet program(Excel) to do to perform a multiple regression analysis for your variables. The analysis should include the following:

  1. Provide a brief background of the situation you are going to look at.  Specifically, why did you choose the dependent variable you chose?  Indicate the general model that you are going to estimate. Discuss what you think the relationship is between the dependent variable and the independent variables, and what that leads you to conclude about the expected signs of the coefficients in the model.  Determine the correlation between each of the independent variables and the dependent variable.
  2. Present the estimated model.  Give an interpretation of the coefficient of determination (r2). List the adjusted r2.  Use the F-test to test the validity of the model as a whole at a 5% level of significance.
  3. Give an interpretation of each of the estimated coefficients. Do the signs of the coefficients match your expectations? At the 5% level of significance, test whether each of the variables makes a significant contribution to the model .
  4. Conduct an analysis to determine if any problems exist.
  5. Summarize the results of your analysis.  Use your model to make a prediction for any combination of values for your independent variables.
  6. Include the computer results in the form of an appendix.

Student1:

Containerization and intermodalism are two areas of transportation that are related to each other but are completely different when you look at their core definitions.

Containerization is defined by the Merriam Webster’s Dictionary as: a shipping method in which a large amount of material (such as merchandise) is packaged into large standardized containers.

Intermodalism is most commonly defined as a method of transporting goods via multiple modes of transportation such as rail, water and road. Merriam Webster has yet to glorify such an important part of the way that our economy functions with a mention in the dictionary.

Containerization and intermodalism go hand in hand as one could not exist without the other. The lynchpin of intermodal transportation is containerization. However, without intermodalism, containerization would probably not exist. The logic is very circular as containerization enables intermodalism and containerization would not exist without intermodalism.

For example, Walmart wants to import women’s cotton dresses manufactured at a factory in China to their stores in the United States and Canada. The easiest way to transport those goods is to pack them into containers (containerization) and ship those containers to a water port via truck (intermodalism). That container is then loaded onto a ship headed to the Port of Long Beach, California. Once the goods arrive in Long Beach the containers that I first mentioned are then loaded onto a truck or railcar for transportation to a distribution center where the goods are then removed from the container and then distributed to the individual stores. However, some stores may require a full container of goods: those containers are then offloaded at the individual stores and the goods are often kept in the container until they are ready to be placed in the store (containerization). Walmart needs the containers to be able to ship their goods via intermodal methods.

One of the benefits of containerization is that containers can be used as temporary storage space by both the shippers and retailers/manufacturers. Since the implementation of containerization and intermodalism after World War II, the amount of labor required at ports has diminished and the amount of warehousing space required by shippers and those receiving the containers. For example, a retailer such as Walmart can utilize space in a parking lot for containers of goods sold in the store instead of taking up valuable stockroom space. If you look at the back parking lots of many Walmart stores during the holidays, you will often see containers of goods stored there. Containerization and intermodalism have also enabled the globalization of our economy by making it much easier to transport large quantities of goods from far flung sources around the world.

Containerization and intermodalism could not exist without each other. They are now a fundamental part of the way our globalized economy functions.

Student 2:

Intermodalism as defined by our text book is “the fully coordinated door-to-door efficient delivery of freight using two or more dissimilar modes of transport” (Konings, 35). Freight can be moved by many different modes. These modes are air, rail, trucking, sea, and even the pipeline is a form of transportation. So, to me Intermodalism is any combination of these modes of transportation used to move freight for its origin to its destination using different transportation systems. For example: truck and rail, truck to airplane, or even truck to airplane back to truck.

Containerization is the use of containers to store or transport products. Containerization helps make the transportation of cargo using different transportation modes a seamless process. Many exports that leave the United States through sea ports use containerization. This helps ensure the mass transportation of cargo from one location to another. In the military and where I work now we use containers when shipping overseas this helps ensure the safe transportation of out cargo from one location to another. The main difference is that when I was in the military we also used containerization to store all our gear and supplies as well. This is since we lacked the adequate warehouse space.

Also, containerization and Intermodalism go hand in hand, containerization has helped make the use of different intermodal transport systems more efficient by helping cut down on the time it takes to move a large amount of cargo and the overall cost.
