Discussion: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Family Settings Versus Individual

                           Settings

Whether used with individuals or families, the goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is to modify client behavior. Although CBT for families is similar to CBT for individuals, there are significant differences in their applications. As you develop treatment plans, it is important that you recognize these differences and how they may impact your therapeutic approach with families. For this Discussion, as you compare the use of CBT for families and individuals, consider challenges of applying this therapeutic approach to your own client families.

                                                                       To prepare:

· Review the media, Johnson Family Session 3, in this week’s Learning Resources

Any extension application should be made before the due date for submission. Medical conditions should be supported by a medical certificate, and, since students are expected to start the assignment early, temporary or last-minute conditions are usually not grounds for an extension. QUESTION 1: 20 marks, 20% of the subject
Australian citizen and tech genius, Marty Goodson, set up “Planks Pty Ltd”, a tech business in Silicon Valley USA in 2012 developing new platforms for web designers and companies throughout the world. He incorporated the company in the USA and issued five shares to himself and five shares to five of his friends. His friends now reside in the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Each share was worth $100,000. Marty and his team used the $1,000,000 equity capital to develop a successful tech company in only a few years.
During the 2012/2013 financial year, Marty’s income was $100,000, and he did not return to Australia. During the 2013/2014 financial year, Marty’s income was $200,000 and he returned to Australia during the Christmas period for four weeks to spend time with his mother, father, and sister. His sister and her husband live in his residential home rent free. He met with his accountant to discuss the status of his three commercial investment properties in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. He also attended a friend’s birthday party and fell in love. During the 2014/2015 financial year, Marty’s income was $400,000 and he returned to Australia from the 1st September to the 1st April to spend time with his girlfriend. During the 2015/2016 financial year, Marty earned $100,000 before he returned to Australia permanently to marry the love of his life and start a family.
During the 2012/2013 financial year, Marty was the sole director and made all the management decisions for the company. The company made $1,000,000 profit. During the 2013/2014 financial year, the company expanded and the shareholders appointed a board of directors who all reside in the USA. However, it was widely assumed by the staff that Marty still made all the important decisions. The company made $10,000,000 profit. During the 2014/2015 financial year, Marty was appointed managing director. From 1st September to the 1st April, Marty made all his management decisions from Australia, and carried out all associated business activities such as signing contracts, and trading Platforms from Australia. The company made $25,000,000 profit. During the 2015/2016 financial year, Marty resigned as managing director, sold his shares to another tech company for $50,000,000, and returned to Australia a very rich man. The company made $50,000,000 profit.

(An attachment is included for the ‘final paper spreadsheet’.  Please don’t forget to list the references as well as include a conlcusion and introduction.  It must be 6 to 8 double spaced pages in length which do not include the title page and reference pages.)

Final Paper

Focus of the Final Paper

You’ve just been hired onto ABC Company as the corporate controller. ABC Company is a manufacturing firm that specializes in making cedar roofing and siding shingles. The company currently has annual sales of around $1.2 million, a 25% increase from the previous year. The company has an aggressive growth target of reaching $3 million annual sales within the next 3 years. The CEO has been trying to find additional products that can leverage the current ABC employee skillset as well as the manufacturing facilities.

As the controller of ABC Company, the CEO has come to you with a new opportunity that he’s been working on. The CEO would like to use the some of the shingle scrap materials to build cedar dollhouses. While this new product line would add additional raw materials and be more time-intensive to manufacture than the cedar shingles, this new product line will be able to leverage ABC’s existing manufacturing facilities as well as the current staff. Although this product line will require added expenses, it will provide additional revenue and gross profit to help reach the growth targets. The CEO is relying on you to help decide how this project can be afforded  Provide details about the estimated product costs, what is needed to break even on the project, and what level of return this product is expected to provide.

In order to help out the CEO, you need to prepare a six- to eight-page report that will contain the following information (including exhibits, but excluding your references and title page). Refer to the accompanying Excel spreadsheet (available through your online course) for some specific cost and profit information to complete the calculations.

Final Paper Spreadsheet

I. An overall risk profile of the company based on current economic and industry issues that it may be facing.

II. Current company cash flow

a. You need to complete a cash flow statement for the company using the direct method.

b. Once you’ve completed the cash flow statement, answer the following questions:

i. What does this statement of cash flow tell you about the sources and uses of the company?

ii. Is there anything ABC Company can do to improve the cash flow?

iii. Can this project be financed with current cash flow from the company? Why or why not?

iv. If the company needs additional financing beyond what ABC Company can provide internally (either now or sometime throughout the life of the project), how would you suggest the company obtain the additional financing, equity or corporate debt, and why?

III. Product cost: ABC Company believes that it has an additional 5,000 machine hours available in the current facility before it would need to expand. ABC Company uses machine hours to allocate the fixed factory overhead, and units sold to allocate the fixed sales expenses. ABC Company expects that it will take twice as long to produce the expansion product as it currently takes to produce its existing product.

a. What is the product cost for the expansion product?

b. By adding this new expansion product, it helps to absorb the fixed factory and sales expenses. How much cheaper does this expansion make the existing product?

c. Assuming ABC Company wants a 40% gross margin for the new product, what selling price should it set for the expansion product?

d. Assuming the same sales mix of these two products, what are the contribution margins and break-even points by product?

IV. Potential investments to accelerate profit: ABC company has the option to purchase additional equipment that will cost about $42,000, and this new equipment will produce the following savings in factory overhead costs over the next five years:

Year 1, $15,000
Year 2, $13,000
Year 3, $10,000
Year 4, $10,000
Year 5, $6,000

ABC Company uses the net-present-value method to analyze investments and desires a minimum rate of return of 12% on the equipment.

a. What is the net present value of the proposed investment ignore income taxes and depreciation?

b. Assuming a 5-year straight-line depreciation, how will this impact the factory’s fixed costs for each of the 5 years (and the implied product costs)? What about cash flow?

c. Considering the cash flow impact of the equipment as well as the time-value of money, would you recommend that ABC Company purchases the equipment? Why or why not?

V. Conclusion:

a. What are the major risk factors that you see in this project?

b. As the controller and a management accountant, what is your responsibility to this project?

c. What do you recommend the CEO do?

Which of these principles do you believe is most critical to assuring quality of life and care for the recipients of healthcare services? WHY?
Read:

Basic Principles of Medical Ethics

There are four basic principles of medical ethics. Each addresses a value that arises in interactions between providers and patients. The principles address the issue of fairness, honesty, and respect for fellow human beings.

Autonomy: People have the right to control what happens to their bodies. This principle simply means that an informed, competent adult patient can refuse or accept treatments, drugs, and surgeries according to their wishes. People have the right to control what happens to their bodies because they are free and rational. And these decisions must be respected by everyone, even if those decisions aren’t in the best interest of the patient.
Beneficence: “do only good”: All healthcare providers must strive to improve their patient’s health, to do the most good for the patient in every situation. But what is good for one patient may not be good for another, so each situation should be considered individually. And other values that might conflict with beneficence may need to be considered.
Nonmaleficence: “First, do no harm” is the bedrock of medical ethics. In every situation, healthcare providers should avoid causing harm to their patients. You should also be aware of the doctrine of double effect, where a treatment intended for good unintentionally causes harm. This doctrine helps you make difficult decisions about whether actions with double effects can be undertaken.
Justice: The fourth principle demands that you should try to be as fair as possible when offering treatments to patients and allocating scarce medical resources. You should be able to justify your actions in every situation.
Discussion Questions requiring your response: Respond thoughtfully to the following questions and provide one reference (cited in APA format at end of your initial thread/post) that you have found that covers the topic of the right to have autonomy in healthcare decisions. You must then respond and comment in a meaningful manner to the post of at least two (2) other students.

Which of these principles do you believe is most critical to assuring quality of life and care for the recipients of healthcare services? WHY?
Provide one example of a situation where two or more of these principles may actually conflict with each other. (It can be a healthcare scenario or just an idea/analysis you provide). Based on your response, also provide the “best case scenario” resolution – from your perspective. Be sure to use a scholarly source that supports your thought process, assuring your response is not just an uneducated opinion but one that has real merit.
