A Review of a restaurant, a full music album, a film, or a podcast.

Write about what you love… or hate…food, music, movies…  Our second essay for the English 28 course involves you writing about your own experience! Specifically, you are asked to articulate your own – educated, sophisticated, well thought-out – personal reflection on a restaurant, a full music album, a film, or a podcast that interests you. The tricky balance here is in writing about your experience – emotionally, sensory, intellectually – while also writing about how the thing (restaurant, movie, music) would be typically experienced by other consumers. And, this is called a “Review.”

Choose one of the three articles linked below and write a 1 -2 page (300-600 words) rhetorical analysis.  This will be practice for the major essay at the end of this unit.

I’ve already provided you with one example of a rhetorical analysis (the response to free expression at Harvard by Milena Ateya) that you can use as a model.  You can also use the following questions to help you generate ideas.

1. What is the author’s purpose?  What does he or she hope to achieve?

2. Who is the intended audience?  How do you know?

3. Identify the types of appeals made by the author (logos, pathos, ethos).  How effective are they?

4. What do you know about the author?  Do you find him or her credible (ethos)?  Why or why not?

5. What evidence does the author provide to support the argument?  Is the evidence relevant and trustworthy?

6. What is the setting or context?  In other words, what event or problem inspired the author to write the essay?

7. Describe the author’s tone or attitude.  Is it serious, flippant, angry or sarcastic? How does the attitude affect the argument?

The questions above are here to provide you some guidance in writing your analysis.  However, you should not merely string together a series of short answers to the questions.  Your analysis should be written in essay format, with an introduction, multiple body paragraphs and a conclusion.

Security professionals need to understand that compliance, along with strong security policies, can make organizational security stronger, but not completely hacker-proof.

In 500-750 words, explain how compliance with governing standards can fail to provide security even when using the Diamond Model of Intrusion Analysis or Cyber Kill Chain model. Where does the use of the model’s tools (e.g., relating to HIPAA, DOD, etc.) still make an organization vulnerable even though the organization is compliant with industry regulations and standards?

Topic is THE HYMN TO LOVE (agape)

Instruction

Create an introduction. This first paragraph should include a lead in and thesis statement and clearly present the main idea of your position paper. Many writers prefer to place the thesis at the end of the first paragraph, but this doesn’t have to be the case.

Explain your view. Tell the reader why you’re taking the position you’ve chosen and offer evidence supporting your opinion. Be sure to present the information in a logical order and avoid making any statements that lack obvious support. Make them understand why you think the way you do.

Present a counter-argument. Pick a problem that someone against your views would bring up. Make sure you present it clearly and give the reasoning behind the counter-argument as well. Researching opposing position papers and viewpoints can help make this step easier.

Declare a resolution to the problem. Take a paragraph to explain why the counter-argument doesn’t apply and reaffirm your view. Describe why the counter-argument doesn’t hold up and why your ideas are better.

End with a conclusion paragraph. In a conclusion paragraph, you should restate your thesis and summarize the position paper’s main ideas. Be sure to rewrite your ideas so that you’re not just repeating the exact same thing. Once again, restate your position.
