psy 635 Research and Critique an Experimental Study

I’m studying for my Psychology class and need an explanation.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, be sure to have read all the required resources for the week.

Find an experimental research study on the topic chosen in Week One for your Final Research Proposal. You may choose to include an experimental study which was included in the literature review you used in the Week One assignment by searching the reference list for experimental research studies on the topic. However, it is also acceptable to find and include an experimental research study on the topic that is not included in that literature review.

Identify the specific experimental research design used in the study. Summarize the main points of the experimental research study including information on the hypothesis, sampling strategy, research design, statistical analysis, results, and conclusion(s). Evaluate the published experimental research study focusing on and identifying the specific threats to validity that apply to the chosen study. Explain whether or not these threats were adequately addressed by the researchers. Describe how the researchers applied ethical principles in the research study.

UST 200

For this assignment, you will research and describe demographic information about your community using the U.S. Census Bureau resource called American FactFinder.

Please watch this brief library tutorial to learn how to navigate the website. How To Use American FactFinder. You may also find Census information about your community located on your city or county Planning websites, but the Census is still the source of data.

Please select a community (by ZIP code) to research. You will select 3 demographic characteristics of the population (race, income, education, etc.) to compare.

For each of the 3 characteristics, you will compare 2000 Census data to 2010 Census data to determine if there are demographic changes occurring in the same ZIP code. (There are also 3 & 5 year estimates, but the best comparison is to use the decennial (ten year) Census. This makes the comparison “apples to apples”).

In about 500 words (about one page), please describe the decennial trends of the demographic characteristics in your selected community. Mention the community you researched, the demographic characteristics selected, and describe the changes that have occurred from 2000-2010. Conclude with an analysis of the implications of these demographic changes.

  • Option 1: Purchase the FunSoft package: Cost $200,000 for software and $85,000 for hardware in year one; with $50,000 to customize it and a $40,000 annual licensing fee for the life of the contract. There will be an annual saving of $61,000 due to the layoff of a clerk.
  • Option 2: Purchase the SoftComm package, which will operate on the vendor’s hardware: Cost $250,000 for a five-year license, payable half up front and half during the first year of implementation. The maintenance contract, at $75,000 a year, includes all currently identified modifications to the software for the first three years. The clerk’s hours will be cut by half, for a saving of $25,000 a year.

In both cases, sales are expected to increase from the current $1 million a year, by 10% per year each year (over each year’s previous year’s sales) after full implementation.

Assume a five-year life for the software.

Answer all the questions above, refer to the attached text book.

Incarceration and probation are commonly used in the American correctional system. Incarceration takes away one’s freedom, while probation allows the offender to continue his or her free life as long as he or she meets certain conditions. Probation is one type of “community correction.” In between incarceration and probation are punishments known as “intermediate” or “alternative” sentences. They may involve some elements of both incarceration and freedom.

For this assignment, you have been asked to educate an incoming law school class about the types of community-based punishments their clients may be faced with.

Research and review probation and at least three intermediate sentences. Create an informational handout that describes these sentences for the students, including their benefits and drawbacks.

For each punishment, also describe the purpose or purposes the punishment is intended to serve (rehabilitation, deterrence, etc.).
