Assignment 1:

This week, the topic is Fetal Growth and Movement. After completing your weekly text readings, reviewing the additional resources provided, and in doing your own outside research complete the following interview:

Step 1: Select an interviewee that is currently pregnant or the parent of an infant. Create 10 questions related to fetus growth and movement, prenatal development, and basic information having to do with a healthy pregnancy and prenatal milestones. Do an in-person interview and type up the questions and responses to be submitted with your essay.

Example questions: What do you remember about the first time you felt your baby kick, how far along you were, were there any outside factors that made the baby move more often (i.e., certain voices, music, etc.)?

Step 2: Compose a 1000-word reflection regarding what you learned from your interview. Include your thoughts, what you feel the parent did not know, etc. Your essay should include at least three (3) citations. The sections should be clearly marked with headings so that your instructor knows which points you are addressing. Follow the guidelines for APA writing style. The title page and references page do not count towards the minimum word amount for this assignment.

Assignment 2:

This week, the topic is daily routines and characteristics of a supportive classroom environment. After completing your weekly text reading, reviewing the additional resources provided, and in doing your own outside research complete the following case study:

Step 1. Graphic Organizer

Complete the graphic organizer below using the text and outside research to identify:

• Specific characteristics of a supportive classroom environment. What does a ‘supportive classroom environment look like? What should be happening in the classroom?
• Specific characteristics of a classroom with solid daily routines. Provide specific tips/strategies for creating a classroom with solid routines.
• Provide a minimum of 10 characteristics in each column

Step 2: Observations

Select a setting in which you can complete two 30-minute observations in a preschool or kinder classroom environment in which you can observe routines and characteristics of a supportive classroom environment. This can be a preschool, YMCA, Girl Scout or Boy Scout event, kinder classroom, etc. Students will complete two 30-minute observations in this preschool setting. Write detailed notes on:

• Specific characteristics of supportive classroom environment in this classroom setting. What does this ‘supportive classroom environment look like? What is happening in the classroom?
• Specific characteristics of this classroom’s daily routines. Provide specific examples of what you see.

Step 3: Essay about Observations

Compose a 1500 essay reflecting upon key concepts from this week’s assigned readings and on what you learned about Daily Routines and Characteristics of a Supportive Classroom Environment from your observations. Compare and contrast how the classrooms you observed were in alignment with what ideal classrooms should look like, with regards to classroom routines and support elements. Use your text readings and your graphic organizer to guide and support your discussion. Your essay should include at least three (3) citations.
