While whistleblowing is the right thing to do it can often come with repercussions to the whistleblower. Provide a response to the following questions:

  • What moral obligation, beyond the scope of your job, do you have to your employer? Explain your answer . Employees have duties to their employers, and they must also have other obligations based on the business or professional roles and responsibilities they have assumed .We have to take into account the interest of others. Also .we all must look beyond our self-interest. some employers refer to this as snithcing however, Doing what’s right is what everyone should do both in and out of the workplace. If we as an employer witness something that is wrong, we must come forward with the truth. Any corrupt activities should be exposed.
  • Depending on how a company reacts, discuss how whistleblowing could affect a company’s future? Whistleblowing can be very challenging. Speaking out against an employer can be risky. Many whistleblowers find their charges ignored or find themselves demoted, ostracized or terminated for going public with their criticism. Whistleblowing, can damage a company’s reputation and even compromise business relationship with the community. People may not trust the business because of the exposure from the whistleblower.

While serving my years in the military, and having to deal with many difficult task and assignments, many soldiers within my unit committed what we deem “innocent offenses”. I as their leader was obligated to handle the situation as best as I could without prejudice to the individual. Yet at the same time, I had leaders above me with written rules of what should be done to soldiers if they broke the codes of ethics. So therefore I had to glance at my duties and see if I was to punish the soldiers because Army regulations said so, or do I sit down and talk with the soldier about the problem and afterwards inform the commander. I chose the later because punishing a soldier even though they knew they did something wrong, doesn’t fix the soldier or the problem. Telling the soldier what he/she did wrong and then counseling them of the repercussions of what will happen the next time they, will better them to possibly steer away from doing wrong. That way the military gets to keep a good soldier and we can continue our mission without any judicial actions.

We have seen with the military how women have had to whistle blow in regards to sexual harassment and assault by their peers and superiors. Many get upset that women who may wear something provocative and misleading are responsible for their actions or consequences. With that I totally disagree; simply because a woman may choose to wear something to her likings does not grant another individual the right to harass and belittle her. She has the same code of ethics male who run around the base with a t-shirt off has. When that lady decides to report harassment and it goes beyond the press, reaching the office of the President, then it becomes a big concern. Classes on sexual harassment are enforced, women are looked upon different as to where some men are nervous to say even good morning. The sexual jokes stop as well as the cat calling. People see women in a different perspective because now someone higher has said there will be punishment on anyone breaking harassment rules. Moral can go down, this I say in a modest tone. When you are from the South you are accustomed to giving someone a compliment suck as “Sunshine, Beautiful Lady, or Honey,” with no ill-will intentions. Now new regulations are amended, military and civilians working with the military are precautious as to saying nothing or if so looking around to make sure no one was offended. It does work towards stopping the harassment but it can be abused by some women they have the power to go after someone they may like or dislike because they have a regulation to back them up.
