This video series introduces us to the titans who forged the foundation of modern America. They cover the lives of Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan and Ford.
Watch at least two segments of this DVD mini –series found on our Canvas site. There are eight (8) different segments. Each person must select the first one, A New War Begins – provided we do not watch it in class as it sets the stage for many of the other segments. You are to select a total of two segments and write a paper that covers the sections on the next page. You will also need references from at least two other sources on the men in the segments you chose.

Paper Content (50 points)
Title Page (2 Points)
Include the title of your paper, your name, course number and name, instructor’s name, date of submittal.
Introduction (5 Points)
Describe the segments you chose and the person(s) you will discuss. Briefly provide background information such as what was happening in the country or with that person. You want the reader to clearly understand what was happening at that time (context) and what will be discussed in the paper.
Industrial Leader(s) (15 Points)
Provide background on the person you selected (use of external sources from your own research would be good here) and what he did to become successful. Describe his vision for himself and what values motivated him? List words that were used to describe him. Include challenges or set-backs experienced and how they were addressed or overcome.
Analysis (15 Points)
Discuss strategies the men used to accumulate wealth. Provide your evaluation of these strategies (ethical, non-ethical, legal, illegal, WHY?) Identify key practices of management and how they were used. Relate the video to your readings, our class discussions, or your own knowledge as well as the ethics chapter that will be discussed in Chapter 3.
Reflection (10 Points)
Think about the videos you saw and write your overall reflections or thoughts on these men (including the positives, negatives and any other things that resonated with you. Briefly share how you see the impact of the industries they founded (or were a part of) on America and even the World. What are some life lessons you learned by looking at their life?
References As Appendix (3 Points)
Cite at least two additional resources besides the video segments.
Note: All papers must have a title page, be typed, double spaced with a 11 or 12 point font. All pages must have a 1” margin and stapled together. Include the above headings on each section and page numbers.
