This is a assessment for 22567 Planning and Control for Small Business Enterprises.
OUTLINE: Students will create a portfolio based on current issues for small businesses which will be separated into two parts.
PART 1 requires students to evaluate the importance of current taxation legislative and compliance requirements and its effect/s on small business enterprises. (Max 700 words)
PART 2 requires students to research current issues for specific small business topics. (Max700 words per topic)
PART 1: RECORD KEEPING & COMPLIANCE (Max 700words)
Former Australian Treasurer, Peter Costello, commented at the 2013 MYOB Roadshow, that the introduction of GST helped small businesses to improve their efficiency. However, some business owners would state that legal and taxation requirements are simply a financial burden.
Evaluate both opinions in connection with legal and taxation compliance.
The Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, Deborah Jenkins has recognised some small business issues in her speech to the Institute of Public Accountants’ national congress on the 2nd November, 20182 .
These issues may assist in your evaluation of both opinions.
Include in your answer current taxation requirements to help justify each opinion.
PART 2: BUDGET, SECURITY, INNOVATION, SUSTAINABILITY & ENVIRONMENTAL (Max 700 words per topic)
Collect at least one media article for each of the 4 topics listed below. Articles should be recent (within 3 years) and are relevant to current issues. Media articles should come from a range of magazine, newspaper and journal publications and should be a varied mix of both online and print sources.
Photocopy/print the article and include in your report. Ensure that you reference this article.
Answer the following questions on each article for each topic.
a) Name/Author/Date/Source of article
b) What is the format of the article (i.e. case study on a small business owner, information, statistics etc)?
c) Provide a brief summary of the article
d) Describe the type of small business owner this article is aimed at (i.e. specific industries, size of small business etc)
e) What phase of the small business cycle does this article refer to (i.e. start up, managing, growing, selling, franchise)?
f) List and discuss issues that have challenged the SBE owner. If none are included in the article then list and discuss some current issues that SBE could be facing for that topic.
g) State some current legislative requirements surrounding this topic that may affect a SBE.
h) For each topic, list some available sources that may provide guidance/assistance for a SBE owner/employer.
i) What would a small business owner learn from reading this article?
