General Guidelines for Formal Outline:

·      Your outline should clearly communicate your main points and a logical organization.

·      Use complete sentences.

·      Include your sources in the outline when information comes from sources.

·      Include a References page for any sources that you put in the outline.

·      Should be at least two pages long, not including the reference page.

·      Note:  This sample is not a perfect outline, but it will give you a general idea of what I am expecting.  You do not have to have this much detail, but you must use complete sentences and include references to your sources.

Formal Outline Example

I.               Introduction

Hook and/or background on the topic:

a.    Many people struggle with the concept of identity.

b.    It is very important for humans to identify themselves with particular groups or characteristics, because identifications affect their position in society wherever they live.

c.     People need to fully understand their own ethnicities, nationalities, races, religions, or a particular belief in order to find their own identities.

d.    Finding the comfortable identity is more challenging for immigrant children of the United States not because they are too young to identify their ethnicities or nationalities, but because of they identify with two cultures.

e.    They are facing difficulties in the process of choosing their cultures and languages.

Thesis Statement:It may be true that prohibiting immigrant children from using their first languages in school is the best way to help the children to develop their English. However, teachers should respect and help students to value their first language because language is part of their identities.

II.              Topic sentence: Retaining native culture and language help children to shape their identities.

a.    According to Bosher’s study it is significant for children immigrants to retain their native culture and language in order to find their identities (601).

b.    They feel isolated even though they acquire perfect English because they are having difficulties in communicating with their native people (Pao, Wong, and Teuben-Rowe 627).

c.     Bosher discovers that most of participants in her study, who have a strong sense of cultural identification, describe their lifestyles as bicultural and identify themselves as Hmong American (597).

III.            Topic Sentence:  Family attitudes have a big impact on the social identity of immigrant children.

a.    Family attitudes had big impact on developing children’s identities; parents helped their children to have confidence about their native cultures and language, and also taught children to be involved in both cultures (Pao, Wong, and Teuben-Rowe 626).

b.    Monolingual participants felt a negative impact from both of their cultures because they felt left out from both groups (Pao, Wong, and Teuben-Rowe627).

IV.           Topic Sentence:  Teachers can support families in valuing and retaining the home culture.

a.    Teachers should support their students to retain their home culture even though they are living in an English-speaking environment because their cultures influence language (Pao, Wong, and Teuben-Rowe629). (Topic sentence for paragraph 4)

b.    Culture influences language because if people do not know their cultures, they cannot fully understand about their native languages because every culture has different way of saying many different words.

c.     For example, Dei gives example of from the Indonesian language. Ways of asking the simple question of “Are you going to eat rice and kassavanow?” is different whether the other party is a close friend of the speaker, just an acquaintance of the same social class, or of a higher social class. The same word that means ‘to eat’ changes to ‘mangan’between close friends, ‘neda’within the same social class, and ‘dahar’for higher social classes (2). These are the word forms that only Indonesians can understand, if they are fully involved in their culture.

V.             Topic Sentence:  While on the one hand culture shapes languages, on the other hand it is also formed by them; languages influence ethnic identities.

a.    According to Ovando & Collier, language gives big impact on children forming national identity (qtd. in Pao, Wong, and Teuben-Rowe 622).

b.    Gumperz & Coo-Gumperz also add that the power of language not only gives humans ability to have conversation with each other but also represents belonging in a group (qtd. in Pao, Wong, and Teuben-Rowe 622).

  • No Plagiarism and copy paste!!
  • Our Dying Oceans: A Cause for Alarm, or an Exaggerated Problem?

Your paper will make an arguable claim that is in conversation with one or more of the articles in the readings.

Requirements:

  • 7 pages, double spaced
  • 12-point type
  • Word doc, Docx file, or .rft file (If you cannot do this please contact your instructor)
  • First, remember to open the introduction with some kind of “hook” or attention-grabber, one which introduces the paper’s general topic for your readers. This more general opening will allow you to transition more smoothly into the more specific, focused “they say” summary of an argument related to that same general topic.
  • When it comes to summarizing the existing conversation, you HAVE TO refer directly to and incorporate a summary of your chosen “they say” article; you can even use most of your Initial post for Assignment 3 in which you summarize this same article.Naming and summarizing the key points from the “they say” text in the Introduction is how you construct the existing conversation you’re entering, and therefore makes it easier to move into your own “I Say” contribution. Remember too to not assume that those reading your paper will not have read the they say article themselves, so it’s up to you to offer a bit more summary of it for us.
  • This leads me nicely to the other area which needs some revisions, that it is unclear what unique contribution you’ll be making to the conversation. You should not provide an overview of all the various issues, but rather focus on one in particular and ensure your argument “adds something new” to the conversation. For example, the Weiss article is all about the problems of plastics in the ocean but he doesn’t discuss what can/should be done about it. That could be the focus of your essay, as it adds something new to the conversation. Using a relevant thesis pattern from Chapter 4 of the Week One Readings, like the “Total Disagreement” pattern, can help you express how your unique contribution adds to the existing conversation clearly and concisely.
  •  Several discussions have been forwarded by the scholars regarding the state of our oceans. While others rises a cause for an alarm some basically see it as nothing serious to worry about. Depending on one perspective, one may tend to take either side and defend his or her position given in the articles explored. The state of our oceans cannot be ignored, yes, it is is true they’re not the same as they  were 50 or 100 years ago and there must have been something that has affected them to the way they are today. The question is is their dying state need to cause an alarm to human being or it is just a wave of change that we need to worry about. Will the ocean affect us negatively or positively, this remains to be the most significant question need answering owing to the ideologies put forward by different scholars on this issue. For this assignment, I am going to explore the ideas presented in the various article and perform a detailed work that answers the questions asked.

Introduction paragraph  needs to revise it as comment above.

write a 600-700 words discussion about successful aging with APA format

Can you help me understand this Sociology question?

Aging successfully is most commonly defined as the absence of disease or disability, high mental and physical function and actively engaged socially in later life (Novak, Northcott & Campbell, 2018). However, this definition can be restrictive as many older adults with decreased physical or mental function, chronic disability or illness will report successfully aging. What, then, is successful aging? Who defines it? In their article, Romo et al. (2013) highlight how successful aging defined by researchers can impact older adults themselves, practitioners or others in their understanding of aging, disability and expectations of what is possible. The article continues, observing how this can be problematic as limitations frequently accompany aging, which can negatively impact those who don’t meet the standard. Bowling and Dieppe (2005) in their review of successful aging theories, point out that there are few investigations into how older adults themselves define successful aging. The readings provide an overview of the leading successful aging frameworks and a discussion regarding the impact of the definitions on older adults.

After reading p. 124-125 of your textbook and the articles below, consider the following questions:

1. What are the limitations associated with the use of the concept of successful aging?

2. How does research into successful aging change our perceptions of aging well?

Dear Tutor

Each point on the long-run average cost curve is a …

1. minimum point on some short-run average cost curve as well.

2. level of average cost that is the lowest possible average cost for that level of output.

3. point on the long-run marginal cost curve as well, because the long run average cost curve and long-run marginal cost curve are always identical.

4. cost of production based on a particular input price ratio. Other points on the long-run average cost curve show cost of output with alternative input prices.
