Gestures and Body Motion Discussion

Gestures and Body Motion Discussion

Directions: FIELDWORK ESSAY

KINESICS: the study of body motion or body behavior.

• Emblems: gestures that have a direct verbal translation and can stand alone such as the

“ok” sign.

• Illustrators: gestures that complement our words such as pointing when giving

directions.

• Regulators: gestures that may prolong or terminate the conversation such as looking at

your watch, walking away or nodding and leaning forward.

• Adaptors: gestures that make you feel more comfortable in a communication situation

such as twirling your hair or tapping your fingers.

• Affect Displays: facial expressions motivated by emotion such as a smile or frown.

• In this lesson you will venture out and observe the people around you. Tune out what they

are saying and then sit back and watch. Take notes on what type of gestures (emblems,

regulators, illustrators, adaptors and affect displays) are they using? How often do they

use each one? Are they aware of these gestures? You will then use your notes to write a

typed two page essay describing what you witnessed. Please let us know where you were,

the mall, Starbucks, work etc.. and who was involved, two men sitting at a table…You

may also use something you saw on TV or an interaction between family members or

friends who are quarantining with you.

Describe at least ten

separate gestures.

Please submit in drop

box your essay including:

• What type?

• What are they conveying? How many

repetitions?

• What are the circumstances?

The Importance of Listening Paper

The Importance of Listening Paper

The Importance of Listening

In a 500 – 750 word (2-3 page) paper, reflect on a situation in your professional or personal life where poor listening skills created a problem. Briefly describe the situation, then spend the bulk of your reflection analyzing what went wrong in terms of listening and how, specifically, effective listening would have made a difference. Be sure you incorporate terms from the text of effective listening skills as you analyze the situation and suggest ways it could have been improved.

6.1.Customers

Briefly describe one of the tools or best practices of strategic planning or execution (implementation) (SWOT, Service-Value Chain, Appreciative Inquiry, etc.). Provide a URL/web link or reference for that tool or best practice that contains more information. The challenge will be to not repeat any of the tools or resources.

Demonstrate insightful thought and critical analysis about the approach. Propose an improvement.

6.2. Accrediting Agency Selection

What accrediting agency or regulatory body did you select (let us try to not duplicate) for the Week 9 Conference on Quality?

What agency, other than the Joint Commission (TJC), will you explore and share?

Why did you select them?

6.3. Employees

We examined the role of marketing in strategy. Using the results of your Research Paper work, develop an Opinion/Editorial summary for publication in the New York Times on behalf of Intravalley Health. As this a submission to a media outlet, this will not be in APA format, but should make reference to qualified sources. The Min & Max length is 400-600 words.

6.4. Law and Order (Answer ALL questions)

Provide a brief explanation of the accrediting or regulatory body you found in week 7; what area of health care does the agency work in, what are their primary aims and what is its brief history?

Who accredits the accreditors? Just think about that one for a moment. Mostly it is the government (state and federal) but are there other quasi-governmental agencies or groups?

What is the value of regulation and accreditation?

Does regulation help or hinder efficiency? Quality?

“Set out to right the world’s wrongs and you will inevitably add to them. The world is often too complicated for the rules we need to keep it ordered”

New Vehicle Billboard Design

New Vehicle Billboard Design

Though there is an old saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” in outdoor advertising, a picture tells just part of the story.  There are a few words necessary to help direct the consumer to do something (the persuasion part).

When you are speeding past a billboard at 70 MPH, you don’t have time to see a lot.  Therefore, it’s common practice to include only five to seven words that “tell the story” that accompanies your dynamic visual.  Or, sometimes, it’s just the words themselves that you rely upon.

So, to see how you can attract attention (but not enough to cause someone to crash) come up with an appropriate image and corresponding copy to best identify and position ONE OF THE BRANDS listed below (you pick only one) on a billboard at a specific location near one of these busy freeways or popular destinations.

For the sake of the assignment, you are to create what is now known as a “static” billboard – one that remains as is, rather than the increasingly popular “video” or digital billboards that we are seeing more commonly.   In the Week 3 module, you will find a template for a billboard, so use this and place your image(s) and copy on that and submit.  You can cut and paste, use photoshop, or print out the template and (horror!) draw it if you need to do, then scan or take a photo and upload (that is really old school, if you have to do that.  It’s highly recommended you learn how to use photoshop or at the very least how to manipulate images in Microsoft word.

Your locations for the billboard include these (pick one):

  • At the beach (near any beach)
  • At the 405/110 (busy intersection – near the Goodyear blimp docking station)
  • On the 101 headed to the Valley (one of the busiest thoroughfares in LA)

BRANDS:

  • Mercury Insurance
  • Del Taco
  • Vans
  • Ford F-150
  • Lululemon

Language in the Movie Do the Right Thing Paper

Language in the Movie Do the Right Thing Paper

Movie Project Overview: Connect a movie to one of chapters in section two of the text (5-8) in an essay and Powerpoint. This is a two-part project. Film: Each student will select a film that displays the concepts presented in the chapter you selected. You can only use chapters 5-8 in the text. This project can be done on your one or with one partner. If you do this with a partner, you will both need to submit the pieces. Part One Essay: You will write a detailed 600-700 word essay explicitly connecting the film to the chapter. Assume your audience has seen the movie, so you will not give a summary of the film in the paper. Instead, you will provide proof and connection between your chapters and concepts/relationships within the film. I am looking for direct support from the text to be quoted, correctly in your essay. Proper MLA in text citation format looks like this: According to Adler, Rosenfeld, Proctor “direct quote from text” (24). Part Two PowerPoint: You will create a powerpoint (or some sort of slideshow) to post in the discussion board so your classmates can see your work. The slide show will demonstrate the connection between your chapter and film. You can either include a link to the clip in the slide or a screen shot and time stamp. For example: In the movie “My Girl” at the 1h 05min mark this scene occurs “In the scene (describe what happens). This connects to the chapter…”

Mock Telehealth Scenario between a Nurse and a Patient Paper

Mock Telehealth Scenario between a Nurse and a Patient Paper

Using Telehealth to improve patient outcomes. Telehealth is the use of technology in healthcare diagnostics and healthcare delivery. Telehealth has been shown to increase access to care, improve patient care outcomes, reduce costs, better utilize healthcare resources, and be highly satisfying to patients and healthcare consumers. This assignment explores the use of telehealth technologies and the application to nursing practice. Create a video demonstration that involves a nurse-patient scenario. For example, nurses providing patient education and health promotion via telehealth. Imagine you are discharging a patient from your unit that resides long distance away. This patient will be followed at home using remote monitoring. Assume this patient has never heard of telehealth. What information would be important for the nurse to convey about telehealth.

The telehealth demonstration should be between 10 – 15 minutes in duration. Here are some examples of activities you may engage with a patient

 Training patients in the use of technology to strengthen their social network.

 Providing health education remotely.

 Monitoring body functions and lifestyle.

 Providing psychosocial support.

 Encouraging patients to undertake health promotion activities. 14 Updated December, 2020

 Instructing patients and family care givers in self-care

 Medication reconciliation to assess for high-risk medications.

 Assessing patient capacity to use telehealth and educating them.

 Evaluating and adjusting the patient plan of care.

 Coordination of care with the use of telehealth technology.

 Monitoring patient outcomes via telehealth. In telenursing, the nurse needs to be aware of:  Words/language used  Tone and tempo of speech  Facial expressions and physical body language (video conferencing).  A close attention to the patient’s subjective notations. Resources:  TeleNurse Health Minute   I Am a Telehealth Nurse | Cincinnati Children’s   Telehealth Resource Center http://www.telehealthresourcecenter.org/  Telehealth as a Tool for Nursing   John Hopkins Telemedicine: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/telemedicine/

Example of nurse-patient dialogue:

Nurse Patient My name is Denise. Can I speak to Margaret Brown please? This is Margaret Brown. Who are you and what do you want? My name is Denise Jordan. I am a nurse with your health plan. They have identified you as a person who would benefit from participating in a health promotion program What? My health plan identified me as someone who would benefit from what? I’m not sick This has nothing to do with you being sick. A health promotion program is one that works with the patient to take active steps to prevent the development of a health problem in the future. So what’s this going to cost or how much more are my monthly premiums going to go up because of this? 15 Updated December, 2020 This is part of your health plan. The cost for this is already included in your monthly premium. But I am not sick, why do I need this? Your health plan has identified you as someone who is healthy. You don’t use your benefits and as an added bonus, you have access to nurses to answer your questions and make sure that you are taking advantage of all of the steps available to keep you as healthy as possible
